MV Julia to be used as a floating dormitory in the North Sea

The MV Julia is to be renamed “Wind Perfection” as she embarks on her new life serving the Renewable Energy industry as a floating dormitory. After a refit in the Netherlands she will be anchored in the North Sea where she will accommodate workers building and servicing offshore wind turbines. The vessel will be chartered by Siemens, and she is due to commence her new life in October.

It was being estimated that the Cork- Swansea route would have carried 75,000 passengers this year, but rising fuel prices, better road infrastructure and competition from shorter ferry crossings made the business unviable. Fastnet Lines, which ran the service, went into receivership in February.
