The Lee is one of the major rivers flowing into Cork Harbour and has a rich and varied heritage. There are 21 bridges spanning the river, some more famous than others, but all with a tale to tell. Whether it’s the ‘Shakey Brige’ near the Mardyke, or the legendary St. Patrick’s bridge, each one has a unique history. Now, friends of UCC are providing a fabulous opportunity to explore these bridges on Sunday 1st April while helping worthy student services in UCC, including Niteline, a confidential telephone service run for students by students.
There will be a talk by Antóin O’Callaghan, historian and UCC alumnus at Áras na Mac Léinn from 10am-10.30am about the bridges along the route.
There are 2 route options, a 5km walk through Cork City beginning and finishing at UCC (approx. 1hr) and a longer 9km walk which includes an additional 4km walk towards the west of Cork City beginning and finishing at UCC (approx. 1hr 45mins). The walk from the Honan Square, UCC at 10:30am
